HISTORY:

Paul Allen and Bill Gates, childhood friends, decided to utilize their skills and passion for computer programming in a business. Therefore in 1972 their first company Traf-O-Data was founded. This company offered a rudimentary computer that tracked and analyzed automobile traffic data. Later, Allen joined Washington State University to pursue a degree in computer science and then Gates went to Harvard.

In 1975, MITS requested a demonstration on Gates claim of working on the interpreter. Allen was working on a simulator for Altair. Although, Gates developed the interpreter on a simulator, but it worked flawlessly when they demonstrated interpreter on Altair 8800 microcomputer to MITS in New Mexico in  March 1975. MITS agreed to distribute it as Altair BASIC. On April 4, 1975, they officially established Microsoft, with Gates as CEO.

1980, was the year when MS entered the OS business. Soon after IBM introduced its Personal Computer with Microsoft's 16-bit operating system branded as MS-DOS 1.0. Due to the supremacy and various other factors, Microsoft eventually became the leading PC operating systems vendor.

In March 1986 MS stock went public. Microsoft introduced its earliest version of Office Suite of productivity applications in August 1989. The software bundle comprises of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS outlook, and other applications known as Microsoft Office or MS office.

May 22, 1990, is marked in the history when Microsoft launched windows 3.0. Microsoft began to redefine its services and expand its product line into computer networking and the World Wide Web. MS launched Xbox 360 in 2005.  Another new development in the form of the launching of Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office version were launched to the consumers worldwide in January 2007. In June 2009 Microsoft entered the search engine market by launching Bing decision engine. As a result in November 2010, Microsoft took another step in technological development by launching Windows Phone 7 to empower people across the world. In the month of June Microsoft acquires Yammer, in September launched Windows Server 2012. In the same month of 2012, MS launched Visual Studio 2012. Nonetheless, in October, MS introduced new entertainment experience from Xbox, three days later launched Windows 8 and Microsoft Surface, and again with three days gap unveils Windows Phone 8. On February 18, 2013, Microsoft launched a webmail service of Outlook.com to compete with Gmail. MS announced the decision of acquiring Nokia's devices and services business, license Nokia's patents and mapping services. Microsoft launched a new version of operating system, Windows 8.1 on October 17, 2013. After 5 days MS launched Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2. The success of Xbox leads them to launch Xbox One in Nov 2013. In March 2014, MS launched Office for Apple's iPad, and in November announced Office applications for Android tablets. in 2015 three major developments took place, in which Surface 3 was released in May, Windows 10 was launched in July and Office 2016 was Launched in September. On June 1, 2016, Microsoft launched SQL Server 2016, then in July, they introduced Microsoft Dynamics 365. Microsoft introduced Surface Studio, Surface Dial, new Surface Book and Windows 110 Creators Update, all of these in October 2016. Another major achievement of Microsoft in 2016 was to completely take over LinkedIn.
